Accountable to: Non-Executive Directors are accountable to the NHSA Chair

Remuneration: This role offers a stipend of £15,000 per year plus reasonable travel expenses whilst on NHSA duties.

Contract Term Duration: Two years initially, reviewed at the end of year one, with the potential to extend only for a further year, so a total of three years can be served.

 

About the NHSA

Currently counting 24 constituent members, the Northern Health Science Alliance Ltd, is a company limited by guarantee hosted by Newcastle University, and was established in 2012 as a front door to the North of England’s health research system, working towards building a healthier and wealthier region. As a partnership and company established by leading universities, NHS Hospital Trusts and Academic Health Science Networks across the North of England’s 16m population, the NHSA provides a portal to its internationally recognised health science excellence.

By bringing this alliance together, the national and international profile of the NHSA has increased considerably and our social media impact places our work at the very heart of regional, national and international discussion and debate.

 

Role Overview

Acting as an ambassador and a champion of the NHSA in partnership with the Chair, fellow Executive Directors and Chief Executive, a Non-Executive Director of the NHSA will support the remit of the Board and NHSA Executive Team in delivering the NHSA’s mission and vision. This will involve shaping strategy, scrutinising finances and signing off the annual accounts, representing the NHSA at events, commenting on bids/ proposals and working with partners in key meetings (e.g. the Annual General Meeting).

We are looking for up to three credible and respected senior executives, with an evidenced record of accomplishment, aligned to the vision of the NHSA. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with proven expertise within any of the following constituencies:

  • Capability building in life sciences cluster development
  • International profile and engagement
  • Industrial Strategy delivery
  • Health and care research setting and/or health and care innovation setting
  • Health and care delivery setting
  • Health and care related industry setting
  • HM Government departments responsible for policy within health and care
