Join the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) for our third and biggest year yet at HLTH Europe.
The NHSA is a health partnership of leading NHS hospitals and universities across the North of England. Representing health and life science research and innovation in our region, we will discuss national and regional priorities and opportunities.

Opening Keynote from Louise Kenny, Chair of the NHSA and Executive Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Learn about the NHSA, the support we offer and the challenges and opportunities for innovation in the North of England.
Fireside chat with senior NHS leaders Professor Terry Jones and James Thomson, from University Hospitals of Liverpool Group. Join us to discuss the strategic themes behind the NHS 10 year plan and how it relates to research and innovation delivery. How will research be embedded into the NHS going forward and what does the NHS need from industry partners to deliver the plan?
Interactive panel discussion: How to build evidence for your market access. Our panellists will discuss how to maximise the chances of success when engaging with NHS trusts, expand on what trusts are looking for, and demystify the steps to success for innovators. Hear from our wider ecosystem partners about business support available and opportunities in our region.
Speakers:
- Terry Jones Professor of Head and Neck Surgery, University of Liverpool Director, Liverpool Head and Neck Centre Group Director of Research and Innovation, University Hospitals of Liverpool Group Director of Research, Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System Director, Cheshire and Merseyside Commercial Research Delivery Centre. Terry’s main clinical interests relate to function-sparing cancer surgery. In particular, transoral laser microsurgery (TLM).
- Rachel Dixon is the Business Development and Innovation Manager within the Research & Innovation team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, leading collaborative projects that bring industry, academia, and healthcare partners together to deliver impactful innovation. Currently supporting the Health Innovation Leeds Incubator Programme, helping companies across West Yorkshire access NHS expertise, navigate clinical evaluation, and accelerate the adoption of high-impact healthcare solutions. Experienced in partnership development, innovation delivery, and building cross-sector networks that translate ideas into real-world health improvements.
- Thomas Bradley is a Project Manager at the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) in Emergency and Acute Care, hosted by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He works at the forefront of industry, academia, and the NHS—supporting companies to navigate the complex pathway from early-stage concept through to robust clinical evidence generation and real-world adoption.
- Jane Green has over nine years’ experience at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, where she has progressed from supporting skills initiatives to managing the Trade and Investment team, and now leads on the Emerging Technology sector. In this role, she champions the region’s strengths in HealthTech, a key priority for West Yorkshire, and regularly hosts international delegations to showcase the area’s innovation ecosystem.
- James Thomson, Group Chief Commercial Officer, University Hospitals of Liverpool Group. James joined UHL Group in July 2025 in a shared role covering LUHFT, Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.Previously, James was Chief Finance Officer at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and Director of Finance at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. He has held several senior finance positions in the healthcare sector, including Deputy Director of Finance at The Christie in Manchester.
- Michelle Duggan leads inward investment for Invest North East England, working with international companies and investors to support growth across the region’s health, life sciences, and innovation-led sectors. She helps organisations establish and scale operations in the North East by connecting them to world-class research, clinical expertise, and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Michelle plays a central role in attracting health and life science investment to the region and regularly represents the North East on a global stage.
- Professor Louise Kenny is the Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool, and Chair of the Board of the Northern Health Science Alliance. Louise is an internationally renowned clinician scientist and one of the world’s leading authorities on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and development programming. She will be presenting the keynote speech at our ‘Northern Lights, Brighter Health’ event.
