Becoming a member

The Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) is a partnership of over 20 organisations shaping the future of health and life sciences in the North.

It brings together leading NHS organisations and universities to mobilise the North of England’s world-class health research and innovation assets.

Our members are at the heart of everything we do- brokering research collaborations to drive investment into the North, facilitating innovation and economic growth, improving health outcomes, and addressing regional health inequalities.

Who can become a member?

The NHSA’s membership is made up of leading research-active universities and NHS Trusts across the North of England. Our existing members can be seen here and we welcome enquiries from other northern universities and NHS organisations.

Why become a member?

Membership of the NHSA offers a unique opportunity to connect, collaborate, and lead across one of the UK’s most significant health and life sciences ecosystems in the North of England. NHSA membership provides the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate at scale: the NHSA brokers research and innovation collaborations across the alliance of research-intensive universities, NHS Trusts, and industry partners to develop large-scale, high-impact collaborations and funding applications.
  • Access powerful research networks: engage with established programmes and pan-northern expert networks spanning key areas such as data and AI, mental health, diagnostics, and health equity.
  • Access routes to impact and advocacy: Benefit from our communications, policy and public affairs expertise, being part of a unified voice representing the North’s health research sector.
  • Access the northern ecosystem: The NHSA acts as a “front door” to the region’s health and life sciences sector, simplifying engagement for partners and stakeholders.
