Commercialising Cell and Gene Therapies: From Idea to Patient Impact

Launch of the Academy of Medical Sciences’ North of England Cross‑Sector Hub

Wed 15th April

15th April 2026, 10am – 2pm, Frederick Douglass Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne

Join us for a dynamic, interactive event bringing together the people, expertise and perspectives that drive the translation of cell and gene therapy innovations from bench to bedside. This half‑day event marks the launch of the Academy of Medical Sciences’ North of England Cross‑Sector Hub, hosted by the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA), creating a new regional focal point for collaboration across academia, the NHS, industry, patient involvement and other key stakeholders.

The NHSA has been awarded the Academy’s North of England Hub, a prestigious national programme recognising our role in convening and supporting the advanced therapies community. Through the Hub, we will deliver three themed networking events in 2026, beginning with a Cell & Gene Therapies launch event, followed by sessions in Summer and Autumn focused on Prevention and Women’s Health.

The first event, designed for researchers, clinicians, industry partners, and innovation ecosystem stakeholders,  will foster meaningful cross‑sector connections, offer practical insights from expert speakers, and create space for new collaborations that accelerate patient impact.

Discussions exploring pressing cell and gene therapy challenges, include:

  • What successful cell and gene therapy translation really requires
  • The journey to successful commercialisation for patient benefit
  • How the northern ecosystem can support researchers and clinicians

This event is ideal for:

  • Early Career Researchers (academia and industry)
  • Researchers across all academic career stages
  • Academy of Medical Sciences Fellows
  • Clinical and NHS colleagues
  • Cell and gene therapy industry partners
  • Patient advocates and public contributors
  • Third sector organisations and innovation ecosystem partners

Invitations for this event are currently being disseminated – if you would be interested in attending contact info@thenhsa.co.uk
