The Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) and N8 Research Partnership have published a list of over 275 women who are pushing the boundaries of innovation in their sectors to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024.

The #NorthInnovationWomen campaign, back for its seventh year, provides an informal and supportive platform for women to be acknowledged and celebrated.

The social media campaign relies on social media users to suggest women they want to see included in the list – there are no strict criteria or voting systems. This year’s list features hundreds of women who are achieving great things and inspiring those around them across the North of England, as recommended by our X followers.

As a new edition to this year’s campaign, we introduced our Women in the Spotlight feature, which are a series of interviews with women making remarkable differences in their fields of work. You can read the 13 interviews with these incredible women and their achievements here.

Hannah Davies, Deputy Chief Executive of the NHSA, said: “I’m thrilled that, once again, the campaign has been embraced by so many people across the North with suggestions this year surpassing last year’s total.

“North Innovation Women offers a space to celebrate and recognise women within our regions making incredible strides in innovation, of which we know there are many, as reflected in the list.

Dr Annette Bramley, Director of the N8 Research Partnership, said: “The North of England is home to hundreds of inspiring and innovative women working in different sectors. This year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ drives home the importance of recognising women’s contributions to society and celebrating women from all backgrounds and places. If the next generation can see role models who reflect their own backgrounds, they are more likely to feel confident in taking up similar interests and careers.

International Women’s Day is a global day, marked annually on March 8, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
