£1.3m funding to accelerate advanced therapies across UK regions
Funding boost for UK advanced therapies network
9th August 2021
A newly formed UK-wide advanced therapies collaborative network will enhance the UK’s position as a world leader in the sector thanks to a funding boost.
Research England awarded £1.3m, through the Connecting Capabilities Fund, to London Advanced Therapies to expand its activity into a UK-wide collaborative network to connect existing regional clusters of excellence.
The network links partners across the North of England including the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) and a number of its member institutions, including The University of Manchester, The University of Sheffield, and Newcastle University.
Through the NHSA’s Northern Advanced Therapies Network, London Advanced Therapies secured collaborators across the North of England and Scotland to support the bid for additional funding from Research England for the next year.
The NHSA has been working closely with organisations across the North and Scotland to bring together academic, clinical and industry leaders in advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) to coordinate activities, share knowledge and bolster existing strategic alliances such as those forged by the NA-ATTC and iMATCH Advanced Therapy Treatment Centres. The NHSA’s Northern Advanced Therapies Network includes organisations with interests ranging from ATMP discovery and pre-clinical research, through translational development and clinical evaluation, to adoption and spread in the NHS.
UK Advanced Therapies will enhance this regional activity to maximise the collective capabilities and accelerate advanced therapies for the benefit of patients and the economy.
The UK Advanced Therapies Network is a collaboration between:
King’s College London, University College London, Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London, University of Bristol, The University of Manchester, The University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, University of Birmingham, The University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University.
MedCity, Northern Health Science Alliance SULSA, Scottish Enterprises, Health Innovation Research Alliance Northern Ireland.
