12th June 2026

Top health experts from the North of England are heading to Amsterdam for HLTH Europe as part of a delegation led by the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA).

The NHSA-led delegation will be joined by Liverpool Health Partners and will showcase the research and expertise from some of the North’s world-leading institutions, including the University of Liverpool, and University Hospitals of Liverpool Group.

The four-day event, which takes place at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre from 15-18 June, will provide an opportunity for global expertise to meet local insight to address Europe’s unique healthcare challenges and opportunities. This will be the third year that the NHSA has had a presence at HLTH Europe.

As part of the events partner programme, on Monday, June 15, the NHSA will be hosting a session titled ‘Northern Lights, Brighter Health’, where delegates can learn more about the NHS 10 Year Plan and the North of England as a global research and innovation hub.

Speakers include: Professor Louise Kenny, NHSA Chair and Liverpool Health Partners’ Chief Executive; Professor Terry Jones, University Hospitals of Liverpool Group; James Thomson, University Hospitals of Liverpool Group; Jane Green, The Great North and West Yorkshire Combined Authority; Rachel Dixon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust; Thomas Bradley, NIHR Health Tech Research Centre in Emergency and Acute Care; and Michelle Duggan, North East Combined Authority.

Dr Ben Martyn, Executive Lead for Investment and International Partnerships at the Northern Health Science Alliance, said: “HLTH Europe provides an international platform to demonstrate the North of England’s global excellence in health and life science innovation, build valuable networks, and further develop as leaders in the field. We’re delighted to be bringing together a delegation with Liverpool Health Partners that reflects the city’s breadth and depth of talent.

“It’s encouraging to see strong northern representation at this year’s conference and we’re excited to spotlight the wider NHSA membership offer in partnership with Yorkshire and North East combined authorities.

“Our partner programme event at HLTH on Monday afternoon will focus on the health research and innovation forecasts within our regions, bringing insights from leaders from across the North.”

Christine Cornforth, Managing Director at LHP, said: “Liverpool and the North are building a new model for health innovation, connecting research, NHS delivery, AI, data, industry and communities at population scale.

“Attending HLTH Europe as a Team Liverpool provides an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships, showcase the breadth of capability across our region and demonstrate how research, innovation and healthcare delivery can work together to improve health outcomes and drive economic growth.”
